Barnsley extended their unbeaten league run to three matches but will be desperately disappointed not to have made it hat-trick of league victories for the first time since February/March.
Three points became one thanks to an 89th minute equaliser for Stockport, the seventh league goal Barnsley have conceded this season from the 85th minute onwards, which have cost them a total of seven points – they are seven points off top spot.
The first half saw the Reds take command with Vimal Yoganathan netting in back to back away league games, the second Barnsley player to do that this season after Reyes Cleary against Wycombe and Bradford.
Vimal’s strike was set up by Cleary to give the winger his sixth assist of the season, three more than any other Barnsley player so far this season and he now has four assists in the last three league games, contributing at least one in each of the last three matches.
Cleary is the first Barnsley player to assist a goal in three successive league games since Jacob Brown against Reading, QPR and Millwall in 2019-2020.
Callum Connolly who scored the Hatters leveller played three games for Barnsley on loan from Everton between March and April 2016 and becomes the third ex Red to score against them so far in 2025-2026 after John McAtee for Bolton and Stephen Humphrys for Bradford.
It extends Barnsley’s run without an away clean sheet to seven games in all competitions and they have kept just one in their last 16 on the road.
This game did however end a run of four away games in a row in which they have conceded twice.
This was their third away league draw of the season, all of which have come in their last four away games.
Conor Hourihane made only two substitutions in this game, the first time this season in any competition he has made less than three and the first time since the final home game of last season against Shrewsbury.
Four of the last five meetings between Barnsley and Stockport have ended in a stalemate and this was the 34th overall pipping Barnsley wins (32) and Stockport wins (30)
We have seen a 1-1 (twice), 2-2 and 3-3 in those four meetings.
It means Barnsley have lost only one of the last eight meetings (W2 D5)
The away team has netted only once in each of the last three clashes, they had scored three times in three of the previous four.
Barnsley were the last away team to win this fixture, 3-2 in May 2004, five meetings ago.
Barnsley have won only one of their last four visits to Edgeley Park (D2 L1) however have now only lost three of the last 11 stretching back to 1977.
This is the first 1-1 draw between the two sides at Edgeley Park for 13 clashes, last occurring in February 1976.
