Swansea 0-0 Barnsley

Last updated : 30 December 2019 By Rob Miles

Barnsley kept only their second away clean sheet in 19 Championship games to extend their unbeaten run to five matches (W2 D3) their best run at this level since February 2013 (W4 D1)

Barnsley have drawn successive league games for the second time this season and both have come against West Brom and Swansea.

It is the Reds first clean sheet in 19 games (home/away, all comps) and only their third of the season (also v Fulham and Wigan)

Alex Mowatt has now been substituted in successive games for the first time since February.

As we end the decade Barnsley's final game of a year for the 2010s is as follows:
2010 - Swansea 1-0 Barnsley
2011 - Barnsley 4-1 Leeds
2012 - Barnsley 1-3 Blackburn
2013 - Barnsley 1-2 Derby
2014 - Preston 1-0 Barnsley
2015 - Barnsley 4-2 Blackpool
2016 - Barnsley 2-2 Birmingham
2017 - Barnsley 1-1 Reading
2018 - Barnsley 2-1 Charlton
2019 - Swansea 0-0 Barnsley
W3 D3 L4

It is the first time the Reds have finished a calendar year with a goal-less draw since 1984 (v Notts County)

Barnsley are winless in their last five matches played on a Sunday (D1 L4), last triumphing in the League One Play-Off Final in May 2016.

Barnsley have failed to win any of their past 14 matches with Swansea City (D7 D7), last tasting victory in November 1983 (excluding a victory via a penalty shootout)

However the Reds did manage to avoid defeat at Swansea for only the second time in 11 visits (D2 L9). They last won at Swansea in August 1974 at the old Vetch Field.

The Reds have drawn two and lost four at the Liberty Stadium.

Since winning their first three Championship home games of the season, Swansea have won only two of their last ten at the Liberty Stadium (D3 L5).

Barnsley are unbeaten in back-to-back away Championship games for the first time since February 2018 (also WD)

This was the eighth Barnsley league match to be goal-less at half time this season, and Barnsley have failed to go on to win any of them (D4 L4)

This was only Barnsley's second 0-0 in 34 matches in all competitions.
Bambo Diaby and Mads Andersen were both booked, between them they have received 14 yellow cards this season (7 each) with Diaby having being booked in three successive games.

Barnsley stopped Andre Ayew scoring for the first time in five matches - the Ghanaian had netted five goals in the previous four games.

On both occasions that Barnsley have drawn 0-0 this season it has been the only goal-less game in the Championship that weekend.

Barnsley conceded the majority of ball possession for the first time in 11 games (last doing so at Huddersfield) however Swansea have had the majority of ball possession in both meetings this season.

Barnsley only had one shot on target, their joint lowest this season, also having just one at Birmingham and Preston.

Swansea manager Steve Cooper said:
"Frustration is the overriding feeling. We had talked about needing to be clinical and productive in moments but we did not take those chances.

"We did have chances and the keeper made some good saves, but we are disappointed as we backed ourselves to score and win the game.

"We did turn ball over on too many occasions compared to what is our normal style, and Barnsley have come here in good form, but we still expect to win the game. We are just disappointed we have not managed to score."
