Barnsley have tonight wrapped up their seventh summer signing in 22-year-old Cambridge United midfielder Luke Berry on a three-year deal.

Berry joins for an undisclosed fee on the back of a season in which the U's won the FA Trophy and secured promotion back to the Football League. He netted 14 times for them last term. The Reds are thought to have activated a buy-out clause in his contract.

Since his debut in 2010, Berry has racked up 137 appearances for the U's, scoring 26 goals. He spoke to Barnsley's official site following the move:

“I heard of interest a few weeks ago and I’m delighted it’s all gone through,” Luke told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk.

“I think I can step up and I’m excited to play with better players.”

“I’ve played over a hundred games and learned a lot and I’m grateful for that,” he added.

“I’m a box-to-box midfielder. I’ll get goals, I like to create things and I like to think I can bring quite a lot to the table.

“I’m like any other player. I want to play games and be in there trying to progress and do well for the team.”

He joins Adam Davies, Sam Winnall, Ross Turnbull, Conor Hourihane, James Bailey and Kane Hemmings as the Reds new acquisitions this summer with more to come!
