Sean Lewis gave his first official interview to the local press this morning, and spoke to BBC Radio Sheffield.

He said: "This one was rather difficult because I was not really in the vicinity but had a group of friends and associates who were and had an awful lot of information about what was going on or supposed to be happening.

"I basically analysed the asset and analysed the potential before speaking to my wife as we were thinking about moving to Gainsborough because we have some friends and family there. I said ‘Barnsley is not too far away’.

"I then spoke to Kenny (Moyes) who told me he could make it happen and I had to come over to make sure. Peter Doyle was absolutely fantastic. My history with him is totally and utterly positive. He listened to what I had to say, he accommodated the conversations without letting any distractions to come to the table.

"We produced the funds and I would like to send out a simple message – I would like to speak with the administrator today. After this interview I am going back to the office for my second day at Oakwell. I have a cheque for the administrator here and I want to get some communication on the table. I want to get Barnsley Football Club out of administration and back on track.

"I do not want to talk about figures but I have the cheque here".

Mr Lewis was then asked about Peter Ridsdale’s offer to purchase the club from Mr Doyle and replied: "I have not met Peter Ridsdale yet but I am looking forward to that because at the end of the day he had Barnsley Football Club at heart.

"I am sure he will appreciate that it was not a case of the best man winning – maybe I just had a little more flexibility and maybe my terms and my deal was more accommodating for Peter Doyle".

When asked about his background Mr Lewis added: "My wife and I went out to California two years ago for a business opportunity that fell through. We had two choices – we could come straight back home after uprooting the family and try to buy back the lovely house we had, although the family that bought it may have been upset.

"Or we could try to make the best of it and have an adventure, which is what we did. I have strong communication links with businesses here in the UK. Modern day technology makes that extremely easy.

"I have a business interest in London Executive International, which is basically a car courier service and an international courier and parcel service. Kenny and I have a property development business in Glasgow and I basically have other interests in an asset management company in Los Angeles – that is a fund of funds, which we can go into at another time.

"I am not a wealthy man. I am wealthy in regards to my family values and having my family and friends around me. If you ask me whether I have fifteen or twenty million then the simple answer is I have not. What I do have is a group of friends that are coming to the table. They told me to get the club out of administration and they will get involved.

"We are at stage one and what I now need is all the history to be put in the past. I need the local businesses and community to be regenerated. I am looking for offers and I am looking for people to come in and help get Barnsley Football Club back on track.

"There is a romantic interest in doing this because it is a dream to be involved with football. I think football sucks you in when you get involved or play but there is a very viable business here. It has to be done correctly and I am bringing in the right advisors to do that.

"The area was really, really important because we have spent a lot of time up here in the last 13 years. We have some dear friends up here in Gainsborough and that swung it for me. I know the area, I know the community and I love a tea and a natter so that was it for me".
