Southend United have today rejected a bid of around £250,000 from Barnsley for pacy winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce.
Campbell-Ryce was by far Southend's best player in both encounters with The Reds last season as I mentioned in the match reports from the respective games (see links below) and would provide stern competition for Martin Devaney and new recruit Rohan Ricketts.
It is not yet known whether The Reds will up their bid.
Campbell-Ryce started his career with Charlton Athletic but he made only 3 substitute appearances for the Addicks before moving on to Leyton Orient, MK Dons, Chesterfield, Rotherham and Southend. He also had a loan spell at Colchester in 2006.
He made 43 Championship appearances for Southend last season but couldn't help them stay up.
