Former Reds striker Karl Rose has been jailed for having sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Rose who joined Scarborough of the Nationwide Conference in December 2001, was sentenced to four months in prison after admitting he twice had sex with the girl.

He denied six charges of indecent assault, one of rape and one of a serious sexual assault against the girl who, he claimed, had told him she was 16 and the Crown accepted those pleas.

Sheffield Crown Court heard that the footballer had a brief relationship with the girl, seeing her four times throughout October.

Prosecutor Michael Slater said Rose had first approached the girl as she walked her dog one evening. Sexual acts happened on other occasions, in the field and at her parents' house.

Mr Slater commented: "She fully accepts she never stopped what he was doing, she did not feel able to tell him to stop. "
