Jones refusal to be de-registered leaves Barnsley short of strikers

The Reds attempts to add to their squad has hit a deadend according to Gudjon Thordarson.

"We have been trying to de-register Gary Jones this week because he has been injured and that would have allowed us to bring someone in. He still has some weeks to go before being fit and we believe that things off the pitch will be sorted before the end of the month, so we were looking to do that with Gary.

"The player has not agreed to what we were trying to do," Thordarson said.

"There was no explanation from Gary – he simply said 'no' so it would be better to ask the player why. There was nothing illegal in what we were trying to do and he had a signed agreement from the club to confirm everything. We were not going to take any money from him or anything like that and we wanted to make room for a new player to come in. We were not trying to put his contract in any jeopardy at all so it was disappointing."

We are still only allowed to register 20 players under Football League regulations while they remain in administration.
