Luton Get The Monc On

Barnsley have today taken the rather surprising decision to allow George Moncur to join promotion rivals Luton Town.

The 25 year old arrived at Oakwell in the summer of 2016 after the Reds promotion to the Championship following a successful spell at Colchester which included goals in both league meetings with Barnsley in 2015-2016 - however the Us were relegated that May.

Despite undoubted talent on the ball Moncur has found it hard to break into the Barnsley side on a consistent basis with many doubting his work-rate and effort.

He made only two appearances upon joining - in the opening two games of 2016-2017 before being sent out on loan to Peterborough until January, however he did make 11 appearances for the Reds upon his return, scoring in two of the final three games of the season.

Last year was a better year for Moncur as he made 38 appearances in all competitions but managed only two goals, one of which was Barnsley's last Championship goal, in the final day 4-1 defeat at Derby which sent the Reds back down to League One.

2018-2019 has proved to be another stop start campaign as despite scoring against Blackpool, Oldham, Peterborough and Bradford, and contributing five assists he has found himself relegated to a bench role for a lot of the campaign.

Despite only having six months on his contract and preferring to move back down south to be closer to his family, it is still surprising that the club have sold him to Luton, who currently sit in second place, four points above the Reds - Moncur featured for 83 minutes in the Oakwell meeting between the two clubs this season, setting up Cameron
McGeehan's goal.

The Reds though have moved swiftly to plug gap in the squad left by Moncur's departure by signing Jordan Green from League Two Yeovil.

The 23 year old winger/forward progressed through the Academy at Fulham but was released at the age of 16 and moved into non-league football featuring for Banbury United.

He was offered a trial by Premier League Bournemouth in 2015 and subsequently signed a one year contract, spending time on loan at Newport. Green was meant to finish the 2016-2017 season on loan at Leyton Orient however was unable to be registered by the club due to "a failure to request his return papers from the Welsh FA following the conclusion of the original loan".

He left Dean Court in the summer of 2017 without ever making a first team appearance for them and signed a one year contract at Yeovil making 47 appearances in 2017-2018 scoring four goals.

This season got off to an inauspicious start for Green as he was shown a straight red card in the opening game against Bury but has gone on to score four goals in his subsequent 20 appearances including the only goal in a 1-0 win at Mansfield last weekend.
