Official statement from new Barnsley owner Sean Lewis

“I am delighted to have taken over as chairman of Barnsley Football Club… even if I have not got my breath back or recovered from jet lag.

“The past few days have been hectic, with so much being done to complete the takeover, but I am glad that it is all over and we can all look forward.

“The change of ownership went through smoothly thanks to the willingness and co-operation of all involved, with Peter Doyle a straight man to deal with.

“If the speed of the move and my emergence has surprised supporters I think that we should stress that something had to be done and quickly to ensure the club’s survival.

“When I was approached by my friend and associate Kenny Moyes I was only too happy to invest my time and enthusiasm in the club and the job.

“I have just flown in from California with my wife and four girls and dashed to Oakwell via London to start the job we all have ahead.

“The first news I heard was good, with the warmth of the welcome that came over from fans in the local phone ins. We will try not to disappoint you.

“I may not have any football management background but my business knowledge and network will be put to full use in the next few weeks as I go about assessing and analysing the club to see what we need to make us match fit, on and off the pitch.

“I will, of course, be talking with the new management team of Gudjon Thordarson and Ronnie Glavin to find out what they need in terms of players and staff.

“But I should stress this will be a team effort on and off the pitch. And, above all, that equation also includes the fans whose loyalty inspires us all.

“I also extend my thanks to my friends and family who have supported me in recent weeks”.
