Reds secretary Chris Patzelt told the Official Website.

"We had a meeting with the Football League Board at high noon today, chaired by Sir Brian Malwhinney together with the director of finance and their in-house solicitor. Sean Lewis and I went down from the club and had a very positive meeting.

"The Board were extremely interested in our case but at the same time cannot be seen to show any favouritism and must play fair by all clubs. I believe that we were just one item on a very long monthly board meeting agenda and the League will consider and give us their response in the next 24 hours.

"We then went from the League’s headquarters to Soho Squad to meet with the FA. We sat with the FA’s director of finance and had a particularly fruitful and positive meeting. The FA have told us that they require a very small amount of documentation to confirm the transfer of membership and once that is achieved I feel it is almost certain that we have an agreement.

"The two bodies work closely together and clearly one will not give the green light until the other is completely ready. We are particularly hopeful because in my opinion today’s meeting with the FA was the most fruitful and positive yet. It is always better when the latest meeting is the most fruitful.

"I am now planning to return to the club and will be at my desk tomorrow but Sean will stay in London in case the FA need anything else and he will be able to deal with it or go to Soho Square again.

"Although it is not all over yet I firmly believe that things look very rosy for Saturday and the green light has just got a lot closer".
