Reds Have Fun In The Sun- Barnsley 5-1 Glenn Hoddle Academy

Well it may not have been Glenn Hoddle's England boys from 1998, but Barnsley made it three wins from three in pre-season by hitting the former national boss' Academy for five.

The Academy, which gives young footballers released by professional clubs another chance to make it in the game, were overwhelmed by a Reds side hungry to have a good pre-season after winning just three of eight friendlies last summer, and just two of six the summer before. Indeed this is the first time The Reds have won their first three pre-season friendlies since returning to the Championship.

It is also turning into a good summer for Kayode Odejayi. The striker netted his third goal in as many games last night as The Reds ran riot.

Jacob Butterfield opened the scoring with a scorching 35 yard volley, before Odejayi headed home a Simon Heslop cross.

Reuben Noble-Lazarus, who had a fine cameo against Ferencvaros on Saturday, released Jamil Adam to round the keeper and slot home the third. Hoddle's youngsters pulled one back just after the break but Jon Macken grabbed his first goal this summer to make it 4-1, as he headed home a Daniel Bogdanovic cross.

The scoring was wrapped up when Brazilian Anderson De Silva fired into the bottom corner late on.

Rob Kozluk and Martin Devaney both missed the game through injury but will be fit for the Reds second Spanish test on Friday. Iain Hume is also yet to appear in a friendly this summer.
