Reds Make Signing Of The Summer!

Barnsley have today made their most important signing of the summer by tying defender Bobby Hassell down to a new three year contract!

The versatile Hassell has been one of the Reds most consistent performers since signing in the summer of 2004 from
Mansfield Town and is now the longest serving player at the club.

His contract was up this summer and he had been linked with moves to
Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday but those rumours can now be put to bed after he signed on at Oakwell until 2012!

Hassell who is a hot favourite to win the Player of the Year award at Oakwell this season told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:

"Simon Davey has shown a lot of faith in me during the last three seasons and working with him and the opportunities he has given me, I believe, has made me a much better player. I think I have improved after spending time in midfield and my awareness of the game is a lot better now.

"I am over the moon to have signed a new deal here at
Barnsley. We have been talking for the last six weeks and to sign a three-and-a-half year deal is brilliant. I did have a few offers on the table from other clubs and they were more attractive deals financially but this is where I want to play my football.

"I am very happy being here. I have always been happy at Barnsley Football Club and this is where I see my future. I have had nothing but success during my five years here at the Club. We were down in the bottom half of League One when I arrived and we have gone on to win promotion through a memorable Play Off Final at the Millenniums Stadium; enjoyed three years in the Championship and been to Wembley for a FA Cup Semi Final.

"It has been a great time for Barnsley Football Club over the last five years and I think we have had more success on the pitch than many clubs when you look at going to Cardiff and Wembley".
