A consortium headed by former Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale is expected to finalise their takeover of Barnsley on Monday, according to current owner Peter Doyle.

"I'm meeting Mr Ridsdale on Monday when hopefully we will be finalising our agreement," said Doyle.

However on Thursday, Ridsdale had insisted that the deal "hung on a knife edge".

Doyle, who paid £3.5m for the club would not be give any indication of the sale price but said. "I'm not in it for what I can get out of it. I'm for Barnsley. I'm not in it for the profit."

Doyle also confirmed that he had also been in talks with a consortium of German and Turkish businessmen, who were waiting in the wings with a "considerable" investment package.

"I spoke to them this morning and they are football orientated people, but they are cautious and they're bound to be cautious when so many people are trying to undermine Barnsley.

"They are still interested despite what's been written and they could well invest if Ridsdale takes over."
