Ritchie Ready For Keeper Tussle

Barnsley Boss Andy Ritchie says he is relishing watching Scott Flinders and Nick Colgan battle it out to be the Reds number 1 keeper next season. Colgan who has been capped by the Republic of Ireland, and Flinders recently capped by the England U20s will be the two keepers tussling for the number 1 shirt next season.

Ritchie told the Sheffield Star:

"Scott played excellently in France; it was no surprise to me, he is on an upward curve. He has made a lot of progress in a short space of time and the French tournament will have been a great experience for him.

"He will definitely want to have a go at being first choice. To be fair, we chucked him in because of injuries and he probably played too many games last season. But now it will be an interesting duel, and I know Nick will be up for it."

As all Reds fans know though, there is a possibility it won't just be Flinders and Colgan fighting to be between the posts.

The Reds have used 3 keepers in each of the last two seasons.

2003/2004: Sasa Illic, Marlon Beresford, Danny Alcock

2004/2005: Nick Colgan, Ross Turnbull, Scott Flinders.

Its going to be interesting.
