Icelander Gudjon Thordarson has confirmed that he is part of a consortium bidding to buy the Reds and has had talks with Oakwell owner Peter Doyle.

He wouldn't identify the potential buyers other than to say there was an overseas interest but it was not Icelandic.

"We've had talks, but time is against us. We came into this very late," he said.

"Obviously money is going to play a big part in deciding this," he said.

Thordarson said he would be looking to work at Barnsley if his consortium was successful and anticipated completing a bid in the next 48 hours.

Doyle has been locked in talks with Peter Ridsdale and his consortium remain favourites to clinch the deal.
