13 players have moved into Oakwell this summer since the transfer window opened on 1st July with many more leaving and now with less than 24 hours until the window shuts until January Reds boss Simon Davey may be set for one more addition.
The hot money is on Southend winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce although Davey has denied media reports he has improved his initial offer believed to be £175,000 that Southend rejected last month.
He told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk:
"We put in our bid for him four or five weeks ago and we have not gone back to Southend since then.
"Our opinion of the player has not changed and we feel that he would enhance our squad and improve us.
"We have brought a squad of players together now that we are happy with. We might need to add one or two but we will assess that in the next 48 hours".
And today he added:
"My plans for the day are simple. We will train this morning and then get on the bus at 2.00pm to go to West Brom. My phone will be on but hopefully I will not hear anything from my players and it will be a quiet day. I do not see any additions at the moment.
"We did make an offer for Campbell-Ryce a month or so ago and that was rejected. I think Southend want to sell him. He is a player that would enhance our squad but we will have to see how the rest of the day goes before we make any decisions on that. I am not in a rush to do anything".
Meanwhile Irish side Newry City have blasted The Reds over the handling of a proposed move for Newry skipper Richard Clarke.
Newry first claimed the move broke down due to the involvement of too many agents but manager Gerry Flyn claimed last night:
"The only reason I allowed Richard to go to Barnsley was that they had agreed to our financial package and wanted to have a closer look at him before completeing the move. But it turns out that wasn't the case. Newry, myself and Richard have been messed about!"
Whilst midfield Brian Howard- named in the Championship Team of the Week three times in a row this season has been nominated for the Powerade Championship Player of the Month award. Howard who's four goals in three league games makes him the top scorer in England will battle against Wolves striker Freddy Eastwood, Coventry's Jay Tabb and Ipswich's Alan Lee for the first Player of the Month award of the season.
