We would expect the club to bring in key players in key positions- Cryne

Barnsley owner Patrick Cryne has promised the club will strengthen this summer to build on the club's run to the FA Cup Semi-Finals in 2007-2008 and to ensure there is no relegation battle for a third successive year.

Cryne in speaking to the Sheffield Star outlined the need for a new striker as the current incumbents- Kayode Odejayi, Istvan Ferenczi, Miguel Mostto, Kim Christensen, Danny Nardiello and Michael Coulson managed a paltry 18 goals in 155 league apperances this season.

Cryne told the Sheffield Star:

"We will need to make some changes because each year you have to reassess your position for recruitment. So we would expect the club to bring in key players in key positions, like another striker. Generally I think everyone recognises that we've created a lot of chances and not converted them. The league was so finely balanced this year, it all hinged on converting opportunities. So we were a little disappointed in that regard. Our strikers came good in the key cup games. The statistics on hitting the woodwork were quite impressive. That can be the margin on which games rest.

"And those players who haven't made the breakthrough, we'll be looking to move some of those on."

Cryne though promised there would not be a massive overhaul like last summer when Simon Davey's signings totalled into double figures.

"We'll focus on a striker and maybe a natural left winger. You should expect to see changes less radical than the previous year" he said.

Meanwhile Lewin Nyatanga played the full 90 minutes in Derby County's final Premier League game on Sunday. The Rams who have been relegated with a record low number of points were hammered 4-0 by Reading, who were also relegated at Pride Park.

Nyatanga is beleived to have agreed a permanaet switch to Oakwell after making 43 apperances on loan, but he gave nothing away about his future when he said:

"It's another game for me for Derby County and another game in the Premier League. It was a great experience for me, so I'll take it and move forward.

"I've only played one League game all season so it was a bit of a surprise to start but I'll always take it. I'm back and available. If selected, I will always do my best. But, for the club, it's not been the best season and this game sums it up really.

"It's one to put behind us and start looking towards next season. We have to try to improve on it."

Nyatanga has played four games for Derby this season. They have lost three of them, and two after conceding four goals.
